At the entrance of Munster valley, overlooking the town of Turckheim, the extensive vineyard molded on a natural cirque, faces south and southeast and has a remarkable slope toward the sun. Hence, the name Brand, which literally means "burned" in German.
The soil is deep granite, laced with black mica. The wines of Turckheim, led by the Grand Cru Brand, had an undisputed reputation during the Middle Ages. With great finesse, structure, and a precise fruitiness, Grand Cru Brand wines display mineral intensity and elegant fruit balance.
